debugging update issues

Post by Nash the slash » Thu Aug 18, 2005 1:50 pm

Is anyone else having problems loading the updates...

Whats happening with mine and only since the xpac release is ...

it goes fine until it gets to the connect screen where it shows % loaded ...

it then goes for a bit then hangs sometimes severe enough that i must reboot the computer hard (power off/on) as it has locked the machine i can restart and continue a bit further usually only getting +10% each time

sometimes it will halt saying my client_portal.dat is corrupted in which case i must re-install my app from the disc set....

i did finally finish loading a bit at a time but i dont want to go thru this excerse each month...any thoughts?

last time i spoke with turbine support the guy said it was my router ...and we changed a few settings then but its seems to come back....
:(

if anyone has similar experiences or any ideas would be appreciated..

ps i run a max out machine 1 gb , nivia 6800 , cable highspeed with 5 meg line..runs and updates ac2 fine....just not the new version of ac1 :(

What type (make and model) or router do you have?

First,

Run Anti-Virus. If you don't have one, goto http://grisoft.com

Then run anti-spyware. If you don't have one, goto Microsoft downloads and
get MS anti-spyware.

After you have done that, you may need to configure your router to pass a port. It's sometimes called Port Forwarding or Virtual Servers, or the like.

that im not sure but the turbine guy have me change some firewall settings...
this was when i tried to upgrade to xpac...the graphics patch went in fine however the xpac didnt

also i ran both ac1 and ac2 updates fine before xpac...and the system requirements are more robust for ac2...

try uninstalling ToD all together

then, delete the ToD folder and start again
