Lo Ki and the 3 Executors

Post by Lo Ki » Sun May 11, 2003 6:16 am

Went hunting for level seven scrolls. It seems all the scroll chests are guarded by Virindi Executors these days. The chest I found was guarded by 1 Executor, 1 Observer, and 1 tusker. I drew off the tusker and killed him. Then I tried to Imp the Executor to draw him out. To my surprise, I landed it! Then I decided to push my luck and hit him with a Blade vuln and landed that too. By now the Observer was on top of me so I switched to my AR sword buffed with 6's (I'm a melee, not a mage!) and quickly killed him. Then I charged the executor. Using my Base 21-42 AR broad sword with BD6 on a Imp'ed and Blade Vuln'ed Executor I was hitting consistantly for 4pts and occasionally criticaling for 8pts. I bumped up the power till I was doing 6pts and crit'ing for 12. Everytime I got him down to about 80% health, he healed b ack to full. I switched to my CS sword and was hitting for 3pt and crit'ing about half the time for 6. I switched to my phantom and hit him for 18pts! Unfortunately, without HS I was only hitting him about 1 time in 10. On the plus side, I was resisting 4 out five of his spells and the few he landed were usually Imp or Weakness which didn't bother me much. Then another Executor and Observer spawned. I quickly killed the Observer and started attacking the Executor that autotarget selected. It was not the one I had vuln'ed and imp'ed but I was hitting him about 9 times in 10 with my phantom. However he was landing about 4 out of 5 spells on me with half of those being either a war or drain health. Having to heal myself now and then drug out the battle a bit but I eventually killed him. I then turned back to the first Executor. He was whacking me consistently for 2 or 3 pts; not enough to worry about. So, I went ahead and used a SIK and looted the chest. I stood there messing with him while waiting for the chest to reset. I used 11 keys and never got him below 70% health. I had 1 SIK left when another Executor and Observer spawned. I quickly killed the Observer and turned on the new Executor. This one I was only hitting about half the time and he was zapping me about half the time. I eventually killed him and used my last SIK. I then left the first Executor with his precious chest.

So to recap:
Executor 1 Good physical, Poor magic
Executor 2 Poor magic, Good physical
Executor 3 Average in both physical and magic

I have never run into such a variance in 1 specific creature type before. Are these guys unique? Or was I just getting really weird results?

I'm not sure about the variance on a critter like that, but the only way I can effectively kill an back when I was dagger was to used life bolts on them (Martyr's Hetacomb, or whatever the name is). I figure I could kill one with a phantom bow now, but I'm used to using the life bolts, and it's kill to kill them that way. :)

I can't kill one quickly....the mages RULE when it comes to those cloaked assailants.....but I imp and fire vuln and use fire...I average about 43 each hit....otherwise it's 6-10 hit points.

EXEC's are INSANE in my opinion and the Devs obviously forgot to rebalance them!!!

The way I handle Execs is to RUN! I gave up on those a very long time ago. What a waste of arrows.

With my archer I just use the level 7 life bolts, 3 shots kills it, or 2 if I get a crit

Well... Can I give my 2 cents worth? Seeing as how I am a STAFF person, and I have learned (the hard way) a trick for melee people with some magic.

Treat them as you would if you wanted to go PK with someone. I, honest, have one spell bar specifically set up for Exec's. (I was tired of never being able to kill them, so I tested out ways to see if I even could) I start with:

(All of my 'Other' spells are VI's.)

Magic Vuln, so I can land more.
Life Inep, so the bastard will stop his incessant healing and draining.
*Mana Inep, so he can't shoot as many war spells at me.
(You could hit him with a war inep, the spells really don't effect me that much).
*Fester.
Impen.
Vuln.
Bludg
Fire

(At this point, I know I'm not going to be casting any more spells, so I get rid of my mana by hitting him whith either the Drain Mana, or the Hetacomb that pulls his mana, that forces him into going Melee on me, which there is no contest, I'll win every time).

Whip out my CS fire staff, and whack away, sometimes critting for 12.

(* these can be left out if you have trouble landing spells).

And, when all else fails..... I just say screw it and go after something easier. :)
