He was cleared of any wrong doing because she chose to settle out of court. That's how & why you see multimillion-dollar settlements and yet the defendant or business admits no wrongdoing. In some instances, the "no wrongdoing" involves a person's death.
Personally, in cases like that, I'd advise anyone to NOT settle. That is unless all you're after is some quick cash and don't give a damn if it happens again to someone else, even yourself.
