From the memoirs of Shi-Chueh Papillon Sho Warmage of the Clan Last Dynasty
Far back in the annals of time, when the world of Dereth was young and its history not recorded. It was a time when mages where revered for their buffs and spell knowledge, as all spells had to be learned by the trial error formula. My mentor on Solclaim HODG started his journey on Osteth in Rithwic. He did so at the urging of his good friend De Vega. Hodg was not mighty as he was an original “class†archer. I took my turns and learned the in’s and out’s of life on Dereth. Later that summer I began my own journey in North Nanto Outpost with my own first mage Papillon. My other good friend started his mage Minto. Together with the original Hodg we formed our first Allegiance.
Hodg ran a primitive computer network and we would bring our pc’s to his house and run in the same room. The shouts and howls during combat were hilarious as it was our answer to earlier voice chat.
Minto and I followed Hodg’s lead and he chose to settle in town of Lin. It was there I met Acaddict (AC), as we shared a muling spot in the town hall. Hodg lost his interest in the game and Acaddict had been bugging me to join his group, which I did under Novastar. Earlier when my sons started playing, I hunted around and found them suitable patrons to mentor them. They soon found the same love for the game as I did.
I convinced Acaddict to accept my youngest son’s toon Maelur and he became and still remains his most faithful vassal, a swordsman made on Acaddicts own build. My eldest was not so fortunate as he went thru a few patrons, before he found Nomadic Soul one day. Now Nomadic was part of the famous Bugsbunny clan that later merged with Laris. Recently I merged all my toons under Papi in Panzerfaust, except Maelur still remains under AC his sword ever ready to serve his liege lord.
I must digress to tell my knowledge of the history of Acaddict, he was under his mentor Arcilite who also owned Raa the first toon to hit lvl 100 on Solclaim. Arcilite was part of the imfamous Ruthless Allegiance out of Baishi and many PK wars were fought there and in and around Ayan baqur. But Arc and Ac were never much for PK, so Arcilite broke from Ruthless. When I first met AC this had just happened. Through Ac I met; De Man, Crazyhorse, Novastar, Enases, Planchet, Raja, BubStab and a host of others. It was at this time my pen and paper D & D pals joined Ac1 under my toons in Acaddict’s group. They included Novacain, Whatsaa and The Great Otch!
Then one day it happened! we logged in to find we were part of Panzerfaust which back then was mighty with 9000+ nominal vassals. Now I was skeptical at first as I had always been part of a smaller group. This had allowed me to be part of the backroom string pulling to get things done. AC was happier not having to deal with the burdens of power and concentrated on hunting.
It was at that time we started power hunting the VOD. I met many good friends then, in the likes of; Ironhorse, Muneman, Oof, and Bouette. After many months of this fun (read grind), turbines other product AC2 in the meantime had stabilized. My friends Whatsaa (Moonglum), Novacain (Sparkles/Mushroom) and Minto (Minto) had moved there. I started a Papi and Nash there too.
A few months later I went on Hiatus for about a year and a half, from my loved, but not forgotten Ac1. As we all know, despite giving both games a re-release facelift Turbine axed AC2. I had purchased both the upgrades as I eagerly looked to see what they had done with Ac1.
When I returned to Ac1 I found my old friends AC, Mune and Novastar still at it. I met new friends in Tolstoy, Sweetii and Keebs and others here again in LastDynasty.
When I look back it has been 7 years of gaming fun. I’m thankful for all the friendships and the support I enjoyed in game during that time. But Alas most of who I played with have moved on too.
I have achieved a few milestones notably the pack doll collection in my cottage and the Aerlinthe quest. I finally settled the grudge with lady Aerfalle I had from AC2, (with Keebs help). AC2 taught us the real enemies in Ac1 were the undead, not the shadows or the Virindi, who where just bit players, pawns in the bigger scheme.
I witnessed the merger of Jathrek's Ally with Bugsbunny on the steps of the Lin Mage tower, I watched Acaddict die to pookies bunny smite
I survived the town statue story line, the plague of elementals of Gaerlen, the tumerok invasions and rogue monouga invasions of the towns, various Olthoi invasions over the years, the conversion to prismatic tapers and the introduction of Dark Magesty’s Marae Lassal and Viamontians with Thrones of Destiny.
So it’s time to say farewell my friends and for those remaining perhaps you will form the last ranks of the fetterguard, so, keep your orbs polished and your weapons keen and happy trails to you all
A special mention goes out to my non ally friends such as My Angel of Strife, Jathrek and Prefect of Lin of old to name but a few .
Though I leave Dereth for now I will check in on the forum from time to time like so many of our friends.
