I'm thinking the writer of the original post wasn't completely in love with MMOs but I could be wrong.

The writer makes some really good points. He's rather hostile and it's hard to understand where that hostility comes from. . but that's his issue.

Like anything in life, one has to find balance in the game(s) they play. And for good or bad, MMORPG's are here to stay - in fact this technology is only going to advance. The cost of VR equipmment is coming down drastically according to this one article my father-in-law gave us.

I read a series called Otherland by Tad Williams. You want to see the future of the internet. . .this book is it. Another good book for a futuristic glimpse of where technology is going is Earth by David Brin. I think they're fascinating books. . .well Otherland is 4 MASSIVE books. . .but that's fantasy series for ya.

My cat Licorice is helping me to find balance right this INSTANT! I'm at hubby's computer writing this and she's sitting right between the keyboard and the screen as I'm trying to peer around her big old tummy! For a kitty that was given 3 - 6 months of life due to intestinal cancer, nine months later she's mighty frisky and fat!

She's telling me to stop looking at the screen and to ADORE her!

Ok, got Her Royalness Pain in the Butt draped over my shoulder purring away so I can look at the rest of the forums

My money would be on the bet that he lost something or someone improtant to him in real life because of time spent playing. Wife, kids, significant other, job...something along those lines. It would explain the hostility. He has some good points, but I think that pretty much sums up most games, or at least most RPG's, be they online or not. What he needs to understand is that games in general are meant as an escape or stress relief. It is good up until the point where someone starts making i a priority.
