A new strategy for Horizontal Chain bots.
Formerly, we had a bot holding the fellow. I think that was detrimental, because it meant if you met anyone in the dungeon, you couldn't recruit them. It did have a bonus in that it was easier for someone to just show up at marketplace, get recruited, and go to their favorite monkey dungeon, regardless of who else was in the fellow.
I think for a while I will try just leaving the bot out of a fellow, with accept fellowship on (via ElTank). If you and some friends are going for tusks, or going to hunt in a particular dungeon for a bit, then you can just stop by the NW room of the marketplace, recruit however many of the bots you want, and there you go!
Also, I'm toying with the idea of putting a bot up on the top of the little crater by the VoD hot drop, on the far side of the rim where no monsters seem to spawn. However, I want to make sure the bot is well out of dragging range, and it will be a little more dangerous since I'll have to have them wear armor and stay fully buffed. Mostly, I just don't want it to have to even defend itself, because that could possibly construed as a combat macro. It would make it easier, however, for someone to start their own fellow and just recruit a horizontal bot as long as they have space in their fellow and other fellow members aren't opposed to it. I think when we had someone in Walled Portals, it was too out-of-the-way for people to make the trip over there.
Feedback?

That might work. I've been thinking about ways to try to make the horizontal fellowship idea more easily used by people. The only problem I could see a hunter holding the fellow and picking up a bot on the way is if someone else tries to join the fellowship (via the bot). If that happens, is there a way to automatically tell the person wanting to join who the fellow leader is?
Ideally, it would be nice to have several of the lowest level people in the chain stay logged on at different places so some of us other, higher leveled folks can fellow with them and pass XP into the bottom part of the chain.
The Walled Portals was, I agree, too inconvenient for people to get to in order to fellow for a VoD hunting trip.
The NW room of the marketplace is convenient for AL tusker dungeon fellowships.
I have been thinking about leaving Another BM in the first tower on Caul since it is completely safe and all of Caul is one land block.
A couple of us have talked about leaving someone at the Aerlinthe drop, but I'm not sure if the drop itself is completely safe.
There is one thing I am sure of: If we can get a way to place bots conveniently in difference places and then get people in the chain to consistently donate a buff cycle or two to hunting with a horitontal bot in their fellow, it will make a huge difference in the XP going into the bottom of the chain.

Easiest way I can think of for that is for the fellow leader to name the fellow after themselves. I don't know if that works for people with an apostrophe in their name though, because I think you still can't have punctuation in a fellow name. Maybe I'll suggest that to ElgarL, to have a command that will allow someone running ElTank to respond with the name of whoever recruited them.Oof wrote:If that happens, is there a way to automatically tell the person wanting to join who the fellow leader is?
Ideally, I'm going to start running regular VoD hunting fellows to get people in the habit of hunting with lower characters and bots so we can see how well it works. In practice however, I have been particularly busy this week.Ideally, it would be nice to have several of the lowest level people in the chain stay logged on at different places so some of us other, higher leveled folks can fellow with them and pass XP into the bottom part of the chain.

I think that would be good as one of the designated places. Is Caul still frequented by our clan members?I have been thinking about leaving Another BM in the first tower on Caul since it is completely safe and all of Caul is one land block.
The drop isn't really. Maybe if they hopped off the hill and ran into the far corner of the water (ahead and to the right) they would be far enough out of aggro range that someone would have to go to a lot of work to get them in trouble.A couple of us have talked about leaving someone at the Aerlinthe drop, but I'm not sure if the drop itself is completely safe.
Maybe with the upgrade to the Marae Hives and the good hunting offered by the Olthoi Arcade, we could look for a place to situate a bot for those areas as well. I'll see if I can't find some data on those dungeons.

I thought about this, but didn't come up with a reason to worry about it.Nakamuro Zataki wrote:Maybe only accept fellows from people in clan?
If someone from another clan wants to recruit the bot into a fellow and make XP for it, so much the better, right? I suppose if they recruited the bot for the purpose of monopolizing it so that LD people couldn't recruit it, that might be a problem, but it seems like a very small issue; few people would go to the trouble, I think.
And it's even better if a real person is holding the fellow, because they can boot people who might guess the password or figure it out and want to leech themselves, whereas a bot can't do that on its own.

The person holding the fellow will not be unattended like the bot would be so there is more control
One thing to note, the fellow holder should let everyone he recruits know that there is bots in the fellow

A solution to VoD problem could be to have a Marketplace bot cast walled portals on request. Then have the walled portals bot cast VoD hotdrop on request.
Easy way to get to both spots.

Walled portals is summonable now?Heatmiser wrote:A solution to VoD problem could be to have a Marketplace bot cast walled portals on request. Then have the walled portals bot cast VoD hotdrop on request.

Could summon Baishi at least...that would be a handy help for people wanting to get to Ulgrim's Island as well.
...
Wait a minute. I've never been to Ulgrim's Island, but I understand that his "second island" is now populated with various types of small golems, worth some good XP. Anyone know if there is a possible safe spot where we could park a bot to fellow with people interested in hunting there? I guess I'll have to check it out to see if it's a viable situation. Also, if people are interested in hunting above-ground on Aphus Lassel, I could park a bot up in one of the shops at the Aphus Lassel drop.

One of the reasons for lack of interest is mainly cause this horizontal really only benifits the 6- maybe max 12 peeps directly above it.....I actually think a horizontal would do better in the casual chain.....just my 2 cents.

Ah, this may be a first, but I disagree with something DL wrote
Yes, the people who would directly benefit would be the first several people above the bot (I think 13 or 14 positions is what the math works out to?)
However, this is where the benefit comes in: As more XP is pushed into the bottom of the chain, that XP will be pushed all of the way to the top of the chain. The quota for the lower levels is 100% of the XP coming in, so every single XP will be passed up without loss for several levels of characters. Only after the XP being received from the chain reaches roughly 100 million XP per week does the 6 million per week cap kick in.
Even after the cap kicks in, a lot of people still hunt for more than the minimum required quota, so chances are, the bulk of any XP introduced into the bottom of the chain will be passed far up the chain. People at different places in the chain get different amounts of XP certainly, but everyone can go to the chain listing page and select the Detail view to easily see their Per Day Average from the chain. Everyone should look to see what their PDA is occassionally anyway. If we can get people to hunt consistently with the horizontal bots, even if we can get most people to donate one buff cycle per week in the fellowships, we can put hundreds of millions of XP into the bottom of the chain, most of which will pass far, far up into the chain.
It's makes sense, at least I think it does, that as people receive a lot more XP from the chain than they are used to receiving, it will encourage them to hunt more, which will generate even more XP. Even if the extra XP doesn't encourage them, the fact that their quota will go up will help them hunt more.
I really believe if we do this horizontal hunting consistently, the entire Food Chain will reap a benefit from it, and I think it will be felt far into the OH as well. And if it doesn't make an impact, then we'll know for sure, but there is no way to find out without trying it.

OMG....disagrees?...I'm shattered Oof....
Basically, when I said casual...I was thinking in that line because they have no quotas and a horizontal or 2 or 3 placed in it would likely be used more.....heck...we are lucky to get FC/OH members to hunt for thier quotas and raise loyalty....it's like no ones wants to share but they all sure love taking....
I tried using the horizontal once...it would not fellow me.....I figured while I ran thru the tusk dungeons I'd share....even though the tusks really are worthless to me..I still get mine every 21 days.
