He found a sweet UA weapon, but it had a Gheru race requirement and a staff skill req.
Or.. he found a sweet staff with a UA req.

I have a character similar -- he's my tinkerer. I had credits left and spec'd staff and sword -- no bludg sword
When did Qi leave the clan?

not sure, he just logged on less and less, then one day vanished.

I imagine in Qi's case he started as staff (Gharu) and wanted a decent weapon to slash with or pierce with (don't know if staff does piercing).

i think he started as staff then realize how pathetic staff was... and wanted to do some damage. so he went with the cheapest good weapon skill.
