MY Level 100 post (The Novel)
MY Level 100 post (The Novel)
-
Ok. Now, it's time for me to sound off.
I am now lev 100.
And, since it's MY post, I can voice MY opinions on the subject and not worry about ruining anyone else's "Lev 100 Post".
If you are going to reply, the least you could do is read this whole post BEFORE you make your comments. That's all I ask. There is nothing worse than reading someones reply only to have to retype your post because they didn't take the time to read the whole thing.
I am SICK and TIRED of hearing this CRAP about "Old Fashioned Way". Which is nothing more than a way for some people to try to discredit the levels attained by use of chain.
These people say "Old Fashioned" as if they did it all by themselves. Well, if they DID do it by themselves, as I DID FOR 80 LEVELS (No vassals, rarely fellowed, hunted alone), then, I can understand that and I applaud them. However, for the most part, this is not the case.
If you have ever made the comment "MAN! I leveled off my vassals today", or leveled several times, just by the act of logging in, then you have no right to try to belittle anyone in the chain. Weather it's once, or 50 times, it's the same thing (which, I will now explain)
Some people make it sound as though people in the chain don't know whom our patron/vassals are, and we are doing nothing more than sitting on our asses while the XP rolls in. Sorry, this is just not the case. The XP has to come from SOMEWHERE!
Not only do we help members on an individual basis, but we also work at getting lower lev groups together to help with passup. Which, is not only helping them, but also helping every other level above that person. So, actually, we are never really just helping ONE person, we are helping EVERY person on the chain.
So, while you try to use the "I help my vassal so I deserve the XP..." argument, just remember, by helping the lowest person on the chain, I've helped 50+ people today... Your point is moot.
Now, if you use the argument that people get an immediate benefit from the chain, that you worked for months/hours for with your vassal to get, then you are now putting a value not only on XP, but the length and amount/type of help you are giving to them. And, you REALLY don't want me to go there, otherwise, I'd start demanding XP refunds out the wazoo. (And I remind you, that while you help your few vassal's today, I'm helping 50+ people today... calculate that value)
However, if you still want to use that argument, we will all sit here while you try to quantify the value of each. (*insert theme from Jeopardy here*)
There are no more "noobs" out there for you to truly "Help", so trying to distinguish one type of help from another is also a moot point. If you have had vassals for 50 levels, or a vassal that is now within a few levels of you, you are no longer "teaching them the game", and your help has diminished to nothing more than an online "friendship - Master/Slave" relationship, in which you reap the benefits of their XP. Where does the "XP payment" end? How long does this person have to be in indentured servitude to you before they are free from the bonds of slavery? (I dramatize)
(Besides, I am fully aware of how it is to be treated as a commodity... I was one for quite a long time). I seem to have lost several "friends" simply by going to the chain. It is quite an eye opener when you realize you were simply someone's XP bi-ch. (Look for my "How to tell if you are an XP Bi-ch" post, coming soon to a board near you)
And, adding onto that, weather we know or are friends with our chain vassal/patron has nothing to do with it. People have always had “unknowns†swear to them, and I bet, for the most part, everyone’s first patron in the game was someone they didn’t know. If I left the chain, they wouldn’t think twice about me after that, which, oddly, is the same way I was treated by my friends/co-vassals/patron when I left to go INTO the chain.
Now, SOME people in the chain earn more xp than those who are not in the chain. However, there ARE some who are not in the chain that make far more XP off of passup than chain members. These people make XP simply off of the large following of their vassals... Yet, somehow, you still consider their achievements as being "Old Fashioned"??? WHAT THE HELL IS THE DEAL WITH THAT?
If you are getting XP from your vassals' vassal (and so on), it's the same thing as the chain. PERIOD. The only difference, is you are not getting as much, because you have made a decision not to train leadership and raise it as well as loyalty. We, in the chain, have made a decision TO do these things, which is a benefit to us.
So, that being said...
Maybe I didn't earn my 100th level the "Old Fashioned" way as you see it, I see it as being the exact same "way". However, there IS one difference.... I have high Loyalty/Leadership. I guess you could say...
I earned it the SMART way.
I PLAYED THE DAMN GAME!

/e applauds Pee-Wee for saying what alot of us were thinking.
The "old fashioned" way is just a saying that is a crutch for losers who need to feel good about themselves. I've heard it far too many times, and i'm sick of it. If I surpass you in level by being in a chain while you do your "old fashioned" levelling, maybe it's because I did something smart: I PLAYED THE DAMN GAME! (quoting pee-wee there). This game is nearly 4 years old, and the vast majority of players aren't newbies that need to be taught how to play the game, and every non-chain vassal i've ever had has abandoned me or ripped me off in some way (by taking what i'd give them and joining a chain themselves). Face it, the old patron/vassal relationship is as dead as dead gets (unless a few thousand newbies join the server), so why don't we wake up and realize it. Anyway, time for people to start flaming me, so i'll shut up.

I'm thinking about not thinking which when you think about it really makes the whole thing kind of thoughtless.

errr grats on 100 I guess Pee Wee
Well anyone who is anti chain is silly now if they are runnin around cryin and only level 60. Because in the last 6-7 patches this game has really geared it self towards the 80 and up toons. So you are missin a bunch of content if you are not above 80. I didn't start havin fun in this game untill I got a toon to 90.
My whole moto for this game is if its fun for you do it. If its fun macro ,if its fun chain so on and so forth. Its a
game have fun hehe

Congrats on 100, that's quite an accomplishment, regardless of how you got there.
I have to agree with Culticon. It's a game and play it in whatever fashion is fun for you as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else's fun.
I JUST joined the casual chain after a year of playing. Not because I am anti-chain or anything. I truly didn't (and still don't) understand what a chain does and how it will help me level. But I'm game to try and after a year I'm still pretty much a noob and have A WHOLE LOT to learn!! One of the few left perhaps who doesn't understand the game that well. I've only gotten to 40 on both my toons through the invaluable help of a friend who has never been my patron but has acted that way. He's been playing for years and he's done most of things like xp chains already. Though when I told him about the casual chain here he seemed interested.
My long winded point is, play the game however you want and if no one else likes it. . .oh well. I'm having fun in the slow lane, rubbernecking my way around. I would like to group a bit more but I'll get there. So congrats again and keep having fun
