4 worlds one box.

Post by Dumoss » Sat May 24, 2003 3:14 pm

Solclaim, Leafcull, Frostfell, and Thistledown are now on a single point of failure. All of these worlds have been moved to the shadowclaim hardware. Where when something happens to one world, it will now effect all these others.

You know it is the shadowclaim box, because the developers SO FAR have missed removing all of the fun code they placed in the shadowclaim world.

1. So far we know of an xp generating lever left in the marketplace.
2. Opening bobo rewards as xp levers.

Both of the above were in Shadowclaim. Which BTW the ACDEV team will perme ban anyone getting caught using them, because they overlook removing these peices of code.

Now how do you know all these worlds are on one box.

ALL OF THE WORLDS CAME DOWN FOR A POWER FAILURE.

I find it hard to believe that 4 separate servers would come down for the same problem at the same time.

Why would they move 4 worlds to one box you may ask?
Most companies do this because they think it will save them money.

This sorta goes to reinforce my waryness (If that's a word/how it's spelled), when they opened the "new" server for testing. Again, WHY would they put Solclaim on a new server...

Now, we find out. They are still working on the easiest way to run people off and to shut the system down when the time comes.

I knew it was too good to be true.

So we're up to about six or seven hours of primetime server downtime this week alone. This alone is the best advertisement for Blizzard's upcoming World of Warcraft game. The way Blizzard manages even non-mmog games easily puts microsoft to shame. It's just sad that i've about had my fill of Microsoft's failure to even provide me with the $10 a month of entertainment i pay for, and will gladly give this money to Blizzard when the time comes. I'll probably sell or give away my accounts then. Anyway, for the record all the servers are down now for "maintenence" so it doesn't really matter that there's been a catastrophic failure. Well, guess that's enough ranting for now  .

Ok, here's a twist...

You say 4 worlds on one box... Try 5....

All of the other servers are giving the "Maintenance" message... BUT, not Wintersebb...

Wintersebb is giving the same message as Solclaim, Frostfell, Leafcull, and Thistledown.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm sure the IT people in the group will agree:

Any time you have a major roll-out (hardware/software), you do it when the least amount of people will be effected if something goes wrong. Now, I'm sorry those of you in Europe, but, your numbers just don't match the numbers of US players.

Look, ONCE a month, these morons should have to stay AFTER HOURS... I mean, the rest of the IT world has to do it, why not them?

Try rolling out a new File Server/Notes Server/Mail Server at 10:00am and watch it crash and tell me you won't get bashed for it.

Hell, they should do it for their own sanity... one of two things is happeneing now:

1) Their nerves are on edge.
2) Their nerves are NOT on edge, because they just honestly don't care.

I think they are putting in their backup plan right now...

Turn on the old servers.
Apply monthly update...
Copy the worlds DBs back to the old servers.

Throw the new server in the trash.

Here's their problem:

Saturday, April 24th from 8:00 AM PDT to Noon PDT
We are making some server-side data changes associated with Thursday's hotfix. We expect this downtime to last approximately 4 hours.

Look at the DATE!!!! My God, I got hit so hard by that drudge it knocked me back into april... the previous listed server downtime made this mistake as well. Guess that Y2K bug was about 4 years late, or maybe it's just microsoft's inherent ineptitude.

So, this is really starting to erk me. With the whole worlds being down constantly lately, and especially at prime times of play. It's 1:30pm for me now, Does anyone know when the worlds are supposed to be back up? I had planned to take my RL friend on a few quests since she is new to the game.

Latest guesstimate for servers to be back up is 12 noon PDT.

I'm sorry, but that makes NO sense WHATSOEVER...

If this is because of the "Hotfix" of the other day... and, they are having problems.. WHY TAKE THE OTHER WORLDS DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE?

Something fishy is going on here.

All I know, is... if my transmission is going bad, and I start working on it, I don't automatically start rebuilding the carb at the same time.

No Sassy, I wasn't trying to say you don't make sense, THEY don't make sense.

(But, then again...)
