When I left this morning, it was at 50% updating the dat files.
This afternoon, I'm going to log on real quick and then i'm going to try to recover the data off the other one.

This brings up an important question.
If, well over a year ago, was when I initially installed AC, do I need to install any updates? I always thought the updates were done during patch day. Am I mistaken? I only ask, because it seems that someone mentioned Sassy needed to install an update also.
Fill me in. From what I understand, with my dialup, I'm going to be "GoZilla'in" the thing for a month.

Well, my logic is this...
Stumpy, what you are saying that I get all my updates during patch day.
Logically, this would mean that both Panzer and Sassy would get the same updates the first time they tried to log into the game.
Why would they need to download and install an update?
If, it is because the patch only updates the most current changes, doesn't this mean I missed out on something by not installing an update when I first installed AC over a year ago?
Yes, stumpy, I can play the game fine, but that does not answer my question.

It's true that patch by patch, you install the updates. Some take longer than others. When you start from scratch, you are updating all of the cumulative patches at once.
Actually, before reinstalling, you can copy the portal.dat and cell.dat and copy them over after installation to save the download time, but I want to a complete fresh install, since all Dillos were invisible to me.

i belive after every "update/patch" they add the old ones onto it so no one loses files or is missing or cannot download "file: mxq95371513hlk5001936 (totally random number)"

Instead of sitting at the bubble filing screen
You can go to the AC website and DL the current patch witch incorporates all the previous patches in one file.
So over time the patch file looks like this
Jan 10 mb
Feb 10 mb
total file size 20 mb
March 12 mb
total file 32mb
APril 8mb
total file size 40mb
and so on
So when you do a fresh install of a AC its takes a long time to patch since the current portal.dat is 199,908 kb
That 200mb is the combined patches of all the previous ones
