Ok, per Panzer's suggestion I uninstalled AC and reinstalled it to try and see if that would fix some of the problems I've been having.

Ac reinstalled fine. I click on Play and "Installing Zone file for Asheron's Call" box comes up. It sits there for a minute and then another box pops up with this error:

"Failed to download http://fdl.msn.com/zone/datafiles/client.ex_."

Help....what the heck do I do now?

Uninstall the program and manually delete the folder that AC is in. Then if you have a high speed connection, download the Portal Update (84.4 MB)
here. http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... cpatch.exe

After you download the update, install it and then log on to AC like yo normally would.

what didnt work, the download?

Sorry...the download worked and installed. Connect and hit play and get the same error message as above.

and this was after you unistalled AC and deleted the folder?

Yep...I've done that twice now

Only thing I can think of is to uninstall everything ascociated with AC and reinstall it ... even uninstall all zone files and delete everything

Well before when I got to the zone file download box it was 995kb now it's only 129 . I guess that's progress but I'm still NOT ingame.
