External hard disk... any tips or thoughts?

I need to buy me an external hard disk both as backup and as extra storage. The most important files are backed up to DVD, but I would like to have an intermediate storage so I have the data on two harddisks and only have to do DVD backups once in a while...
Any tips on good units?
USB 2.0 (I dont have any firewire on my laptop, although firewire interface is not a minus on the hd as long as it got usb 2.0)

First I was thinking of getting a Lacie Porsche 250GB, they had won some test awards. But on swedish pricerunner they got the shaft, lots of people complaining about hard disk crashes.
Right now looking at Seagate external HD with 160GB (or more).
Another option ofcourse would be to build a home movie station and use the internal HD on it as backup. But that will probably be more expensive...

The new Maxtor 300 GB with Firewire, USB2.0 and Ethernet interface works well.

Wow! tng, that's one good looking URL!
I am thinking that 300 GB sounds like mucho storage space.

Clearly, you should buy something bigger, and send your old 300 GB drives to me.

On of the basic laws of nature : there is no harddisk big enough NOT to fill up....

Yup, rule of thumb or nature.
if nerd storage = 300 GB then freespace = 1%
if nerd upgrade_storage = 600 GB then freespace = 1%
...and so on...
I am a packrat.
