How did you first start playing?

I don't want to go first this time. :)

Everyone in the loan company next to my office played AC. They were always talking about it.. telling me how good a game it was. Once i got a good look at it I wanted to play. I have been playing nonstop now for 4 years. I don't think I will ever stop.

I assume you mean "start playing AC".....because honestly I do not know what the very first game was when I *really* started playing...

1) I opened the box of Asheron's Call

2) I took CD out

3) I booted my PC

3) I placed CD in CDROM drive

4) I installed the game

6) I double-clicked the AC desktop icon

It's been so long - I do not remember how I created the Zone Account....

Was introduced to the game by a friend. Watched him play it. Knew it'd have me addicted. Held out as long as I could. Tried it out on one of the worlds my buddy wasn't playing on. I was d00med. Bought my own CD the following week. Then did what Trek did. Rolled up Ncatyl (total gimp, two-school UA/arcane spec with 60/60 Coord & Str) and have been playing him ever since. Carried the title of "Iron Chef" until killing the Olthoi Queen, kept the Queenslayer title. Still have it today. Stats have been fixed. Still a 2-school UA/Arcane spec. Now with Magic D, and Melee D spec as well!

I'm still asked on occasion why my health is so low. My reply is the same as it's ever been; Frankly I'd rather put the XP into NOT taking damage in the first place!

A friend showed me AC back in 2000 or start 2001 - I was hooked.

Funny thing is I showed one of my friends, he started out wanting NO help, killed rabbits and drudges til level 33 outside holtburg, then found out help and buffs was nice.

Now he is level 225+ on one toon and has several 200+ toons :)

Ashida Kim got me hooked. He told me about this game he played since beta and how great it was. I had started Dark Age of Camelot and then started this one and in my opinion there is no comparison between the two! Though I am looking forward to the expansion! :) But there is still so much I haven't seen and still so much to learn.

My hubby started playing on Morningthaw "back in the day" when AC was new and buffs were much shorter. After he acquired an additional account from another player who was leaving the game, I began playing with him. Then, I got my own disk and account, and began playing on SC, and the rest, as they say, is history. I don't always play as much as I'd like because of RL, but I still enjoy pounding the bejeebers out of critters when I can! :bash:

I have never been a big RPG fan. In fact, not even a little one, ;) When I did play games, I liked to enter -- blast some things -- leave. I don't like games that I will have to play for a year to complete. My attention span is a tad longer than a gnat's. :D

Some friends and I used to play Rogue Spear now and then. One of them called me and said he knew I wouldn't like it, but there's this new game they found -- Asheron's Call. I did some research and couldn't find ANYTHING about it anywhere. It didn't exist! :) Another friend came over a couple days later -- walks in my office and throw the box on my desk. So, I turn around and install.

When I login, I have no idea at all what i'm doing. The book isn't much help either. They all had melee/archer types, so I had to choose a magic user.

I chose one of the pre-canned templates. I think it was Sorcerer or something. I don't remember. But, I had Mana Conversion, Arcane Lore and War Magic Spec'd. I don't remember what I had trained. We started in Rithwic. They were a couple levels ahead of me, starting out. We killed rabbits and drudges outside of Rithwic. We played for a couple hours the first night. We all had different schedules during the week, so I played solo or with just one other friend. Now, keep in mind, we didn't have a lifestone command like we do now. So, when you got lost -- YOU GOT LOST. Only way home was with vitae.

What I liked the most, was the graphics with such a large game. The 3D (ish) graphics were awesome (at the time).

I wish I could remember my first patron, because I'd like to smack in the head for ditching me. :) I swore to some guy and my friends went to some dungeon -- don't remember where. We were in a fellow, so I could talk to them. This "so-called" patron took me to a place to level with one of person. He took us to a desert town with a lifestone on a ridge just outside of town.

Then, he left us.

He said he would be back.

He lied.

The other guy logged off. Now, at this point, I was in the single digits in levels. I am on the East side of the water in the middle of the map, and I have to somehow get back to Rithwic with my friends. Only one way --- RUN.

So, I run -- and I spend the entire time running from these Dillos. I have to run around the this mountain. And I figure If I can get to the next town, I can attune there and wiggle my way back. I run and zig and zag and jump to avoid these creatures, but they follow me the entire way. Eventually, my heiny could take no more dillo bites. I'm ALL the way back at this Asheron forsaken town. I enlist the help of this mammoth level fifteen guy to get my bod. He does, but at a price. He dies twice.

He can't help me get back to Rithwic. I finally find someone that will help me. He summons a portal, which I thought was cool. I had not seen that yet. I go in and run with him for a while. We enter another portal. I follow him through a door -second right-stay left-it winds down--- to a pit.

Don't jump yet! He buffs me -- Turn around and jump backward, holding the shift. Huh? Do it. Okay.

WOW -- I tell my friends in the fellow -- "I am in this room with portals, EVERYWHERE!!!". "Where is it?" "Beats the @$#@! out of me." He points me to the Rithwic portal, which reunites me with my buddies.

I break from that #$%@#$% who left me to die. :)

That was my first week on Dereth. :D

And then Panzer told me about that magical place called Subway and I SO wanted to go in it, but he told me I couldn't, because I'd need about 50 health to survive the jump down into the pit.

I worked hard for the next few (several?) days in order to get up to the 50 health needed to survive the jump, and then it was off to see this Subway place. It was so COOL!!! Plus, Panzer was right. The jump took nearly all of my health. Then, what the jump didn't take, some undead critter did that I didn't even see. I thought it was another character coming up to me.

Ah, such was Asheron's Call in the old days. ;)

I had a friend who had managed to get into the testing phases of AC. I checked it out at his house & was very impressed. I didnt have the monthly cash myself to get started so I advised my other friend to get this great game. He did & I signed up about 2 months later & have been going almost non stop. I did take a little break but could find no better game.

Now.. that was a long long time ago in a... wait... it wasn't all that far away.. it was just down the road from here actually.

back in the spring of 2000, I was working as a banquet cook at some ritzy fancy shmancy resort, and my best friend was working as a clerk at a local video store... wich happend to be right on the way home from my job so I would stop in there pretty frequently.

His manager had started playing this game a few months earlier and suggested that wwe both would probably enjoy it.

after much convincing from her, he finnaly caved and bought the game.. i didn't have a stable internet connection at the time (Net Zero) so I was over at his place quite frequently after that.

We both created charachters on Thistledown and played there for quite a time.

Several months later I lost my job and found another one that allowed me to actually afford to play this great game.

started over on solclaim, met a great group of people.

they faded into oblivion, though I still run into one or two on occasion...

and then in august of 2004 a few aquaintances of mine came calling and I decided to quit AC for lack of time and too much other stuff going on.

for those of you who don;t know the aquaintances I am talking about, they visited just about all of florida.

And you know what, I honestley don't miss AC all that much... I do miss many of my friends from it, but not the game itself.
I'm thinking about not thinking which when you think about it really makes the whole thing kind of thoughtless.
