ToD Graphics?
Does the new expansion pack really make the graphics better? AC graphics were SOOO outdated.

Well - the graphics is not better - it "just" LOOKS better.Andiglo wrote:Does the new expansion pack really make the graphics better? AC graphics were SOOO outdated.
Basically it combines the same 3D models and polygon count with better textures. The only objects that seem to be really made new are trees and bushes.
So you probably have to call the graphics "outdated" still.
Funny thing is - when the client had stability-, and performance-issues during the Preview, many people (including myself) said
Turbine, if you are not able to do it, leave it as it is.
Give us the new content, the new level cap, the augmentation gems etc., but don't touch the graphics.
The old and long-term players play AC *despite* the current graphics, and the new graphics will not lure new players anyway who are used to WOW, EQ2, EVE, AO, ....
It sounds weird - but I think the AC graphics has some sort of "Lego brick" charm (does America know "Lego" ?).
There are quite many eye-candy online games out there, AC does not need to become "just another one".
Check those screenshots (especially the Monougas) :

I think so, constantly stepping on those little "lego charms" on a daily basis in this house via my "creative" son!It sounds weird - but I think the AC graphics has some sort of "Lego brick" charm (does America know "Lego" ?).

re graphics
Well compared to the graphics in ac2 they arent as good, however i do like the overall improvement in the scenery, and the nice graphics when you ID a mob or player you get the stats superimposed over the new graphic showing lots of armor detail.
I still find laag an issue with my session being locked or losing my line. But whether this is a internet issue im not sure as ac2 has been laagy of late too.
I like the new graphic for the viamontian armor and the updated pack item icons that i have seen.
I also like the little detailing such as the flowering bushes in the scenery.
I thought the vaimontians should have been more distinct as a race within the game mechanics not just blue humans but thats just my opinion.
as I play both games Im dissappionted in the apparent lore inconsistances
if viamontians were so numerous/populous why are there no traces of them in ac2?....we got blue skinned empyreans instead....
but overall i like the new facelift and i am anxious to explore the new content.

Yes, but not SOTA (State of the Art).Andiglo wrote:Does the new expansion pack really make the graphics better? AC graphics were SOOO outdated.

Anyway, its the CONTENT and GAMEPLAY not the graphics that makes a game worth play

Pretty GFX games with little CONTENT and GAMEPLAY Its like a KitCar, it looks good but is no phun to drive

I for one think that the "new" content is pretty much along the lines as all the other content they just upped the lvl of the mobs same old same old. as far as the new level caps and gems well it will be years before i can even worry about it. At this point the whole game in my opinion over the last few years is all about the high lvl content. No more enjoyment can be found for those that cant really dedicate the time needed to hunt 15 20 hours a week let alone quest.
ahh well all good things get ruined by the loud and the angry

I beg to differ.Portrait wrote:I for one think that the "new" content is pretty much along the lines as all the other content they just upped the lvl of the mobs same old same old. as far as the new level caps and gems well it will be years before i can even worry about it. I have NO toon over level 190.
All 2-3-4 year old toons. Lots of fun for those.
Lower level, lots of fun, UNLESS I want the content for the 126+ toons - and if I do, I NEED to make an EFFORT to GET a toon over 126.
So I do not agree.
If you're tired of AC in general, tired of a game that requires some (not 24/7) time, maybe its time to find some other game that is more "instant" - cause that is not what AC is.

Well it's been a year since I've played, but the differences between my level 170 or so Axer and a level 200 axer was VERY small, and came down to gear more than anything else.

Level 170 and Level 200 - not that much difference, depending on how you spent your xp.Andiglo wrote:Well it's been a year since I've played, but the differences between my level 170 or so Axer and a level 200 axer was VERY small, and came down to gear more than anything else.
So its the same axer? Same critters?
Gear has always been important in AC so naturally.
Please elabotate further for clarification.

My Strength and Coord are already maxed.. so after that I'd be spending it say on melee... and a 200 level axer might have a few more points, offset by a major melee item.. or even then it's a fairly small difference.
But yes, it depends.

I rolled a couple of new characters and have been running around on then some on the new island, just exploring and doing starter quests, and have been having a blast. Talking to the NPCs and doing their little quests that they were too wimpy to complete themselves, setting the beacon light, etc. I still haven't started down the "declaring myself loyal to the rebels or to the other blue skinned people yet" so I haven't had the opportunity yet to have any NPCs try to kill me, but I think I'll probably try doing the help the rebel thing a little later on and see what happens with that.
Overall, I'm liking playing my baby viamontians more than I like playing Oof. With Oof, yes, it's basically still, "Here's a high level character, there's a new high level critter, let's see who dies first." Still fun, but reasonably predictable after a little while.
My 2p.
P.S. Don't get me wrong. I LIKE ToD, and I am furthermore waiting with somewhat bated breath to see if the land control system they rumored about a long time ago resurfaces in the rumor mill and eventually pops out in the future, since I think that a clan-driven land control system or something like that would go a long way towards revitilizing the usefulness of monarchies.
