Tech Help Please: AC locks up whenever I'm running ZoneAlarm

Post by Zafa » Sun Jul 13, 2003 11:55 pm

Everytime I try to launch AC it locks my system up. Anyone know a way around this problem?

(Other than not running ZoneAlarm :P )

Thanks for any help!

Check to make sure you dont have ZoneAlarm blocking the port AC uses, i think default port is 9000 but i may be wrong.

Was on around 2 your time, didnt see ya but had to go get f00d. Ill be on later (im level 18 now ^_^)

I had this whenever I used to run it. Thinking back, the problem I had was that ZoneAlarm pops up a dialog asking you whether Client.exe should be allowed to access the internet, but because AC is in front, you can't see it, and because it is blocking AC, you can't alt-tab.

Try pressing <return>, then closing down AC with alt-tab (I did something like this, I can't remember exactly what). You should then be able to open the ZoneAlarm configuration page, go to the list of programs that is knows about, find Client.exe, check "Allow this program to access and be a server", and if you right-clock on client.exe you should also be able to check "This program changes often" from the popup menu.

Good luck!

Just hitting Y might work or you could open up zone alarm before running AC, and making sure it got the proper access set.

I have that same prob every month with patch. I would get to the "connecting"--"updated" screen with the vials that fill up , and AC would lock up, had to reboot comp. to get out. Boy, the first time I ran into it I got REAL frustrated.

Just turn off Zonealarm, log in to AC, then go turn on ZA and open control panel. You can then go to the "program control" page and change the setting on "Client" to allow access. You may have to do this each month on patch day.

this happens at every update because the program ( Ac) Changes go into setting for Zonealarm find Ac Related programs( IE: CLIENT and MSN Zone Exe's) and there should be a option around when you click on them that says Allow changes to program ...or some such thing check this and problem solved.

Perhaps the registered version has it, I have the free version and I've searched the ZoneAlarm UI and found nothing. Nothing in the Help section to indicate it either.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I haven't had a chance to try a fix yet. We'll see what happens.

What you may want to try doing is running Dual Client and start AC in Windows mode.. then you will be able to tab over to the Zone window and select the remember button for the connection..

Also you can just move your mouse over to the bottom right of the screen and click in it.. I have had it where the window would pop up to the front and allow me to select it from there without canceling the connection for logging into AC..

I will try to remember anything else that I did to get past that point for Zone Alarm.. Good luck with it.. Fire Eagle
