just put in any IP address and it tells you who owns the range and gives other information about them

great if your being ping flooded or getting spam and can get the IP address of the offender

whois -h whois.arin.net <ip>

same thing.

however, arin may refer you to other registries in the system, apnic, lacnic, etc.
